Sri Shiva Sahasranam
Thousand Names of Lord Shiva
CD-Cover

Shiva is regarded as the primary aspects of the divine. He is limitless, transcendent, unchanging and formless. However, Shiva also has many forms. In benevolent aspects, he is depicted as an omniscient Yogi who lives an ascetic life on Mount Kailash, as well as a householder with wife Parvati and two sons, Ganesha and Kartikeya or as the Cosmic Dancer. In fierce aspects, he is often depicted slaying demons. The most recognizable attributes of the God are a third eye on his forehead, a snake around his neck, the crescent moon adorning him and the river Ganga flowing from his matted hair, the Trishula (trident) as his weapon and the Damaru (drum) as his music instrument. Shiva is also regarded as the patron God of yoga and arts.

Mohani Heitel has sung these thousand names of Lord Shiva accompanying herself with the instrument tanpura in an invoking way. Through singing theses names one should remember the presence of almighty God and share the bliss and blessings of the divinity. During singing or mere listening to this recording one may feel the presence of Lord Shiva in form of peace and individual spiritual experience. It also serves as an aid to meditate along with the flow of Shiva´s Holy Names.

Mohani Heitel: Mantra Mohini - flowers of adoration

Neuerscheinung im März 2016

Shiva Sahasranam consists of one thousand names of Lord Shiva. Sahasranamas are classified as stotras, or hymns of praise. A Sahasranam provides a terse but universal guide to the attributes and legends surrounding a deity. Many religions include praise of the Divine Name as an important part of their devotional practice. Recitation and study of these often constitute part of the daily routine of worship. The use of Sahasranamas comprises following practices of devotion: listening to recitals of names and glories of God (sravana), reciting the names of God either set to music or not (nama-sankirtana), recalling divine deeds and teachings (smarana), worshipping the divine with repetition of divine names (archana).

Shiva Sahasranam is taken from the ancient Indian script Mahabaratha. Yudishtira after hearing the Vishnu Sahasranam from Bheeshma requests him also to teach the thousand names of Lord Shiva. Bheeshma expresses his inability to the same and requests Lord Krishna, incarnation of Vishnu, to teach it to Yudishtira. Because Vishnu who knows everything, who has greatest qualities, who cannot be won over by anybody, who has special holy sight, and who is greatly resplendent, sees Lord Shiva by his eyes of yoga. Then Lord Krishna teaches it to Yudishtira.

Man, revere the beauty of creation
and your life will be beautiful!
Shiva is truth and beauty.
With Shiva your mind will obtain fulfilment.
The great dancer Shiva dances in the universe
and every atom dances at every moment.
The power of Shiva endows the body with life-force.
Deprived of which the body becomes an empty wallet.
Whether near or far, the beauty delights us,
as does a flower-garden.
Mohani says,
enjoy your food and songs of devotion to God.
Peace and love, both are your true wealth!
